I am pleased that Heather Cariou is donating a portion of the proceeds from this book to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This is a moving account of her family’s refusal to give up when faced with the devastating news that her sister had cystic fibrosis (CF).
Known today as the most common, fatal genetic disease affecting young persons throughout North America, CF attacks both breathing and digestion. And although research, funded by donations, has made it possible for children and adults with CF to live longer and healthier lives, a cure, so far, has eluded us.
Cystic fibrosis has touched Heather Cariou, and it has touched my family, in a very personal way. Heather’s cherished sister Pamela died of complications related to CF at the age of 26, and my beloved niece, Karine, lost her battle with CF at the age of 16. Like Heather, I remain committed to doing all I can to help defeat this devastating disease, which is still stealing the future from so many young people.
On behalf of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the families who battle CF bravely every day, I would like to thank Heather Cariou for supporting the cause we share, through this inspirational book. With her generous encouragement, and the contributions of many others, I remain confident that together, we will beat cystic fibrosis, once and for all.
